Hotel review: Grand Hotel Toplice – Lake Bled

Welcome back to ToscaTravels!

It’s finally time to introduce a new blog section: HOTEL REVIEW!

There’s no better way to inaugurate this section with a special collaboration that allowed me to visit one of the most wanted destinations ever!

I’m talking about Lake Bled! You’ve probably already heard about this place as it’s considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Visiting Lake Bled is like jumping into the pages of a fairy tale: the scenic landscape of Slovenian alps, rowing boats riding across the lake and that peaceful atmosphere you only can find in this kind of places.

I’ve been invited by the most elegant hotel of Lake Bled: Grand Hotel Toplice and I want to share with you how amazing my time there has been, so…

The Hotel

Grand Hotel Toplice is part of the Small Luxury Hotels chain, which combines small hotels providing unique personalised services and inspiring experiences; the hotel is located right on the shore of Lake Bled, from where you have the best view of the lake, the castle and the famous island.

With a history of almost 90 years, this five stars deluxe hotel has the longest tradition in Bled and since the very first step you take in this hotel, you can feel the attention to details and the excellent service of the staff. The receptionist also surprised us with a fluent Italian, which has definitely been a plus.

You can enjoy what the hotel has to offer both in summer and winter: if you’re visiting Lake Bled in summer, the hotel offers its private boats to ride and a private beach for a swim in the crystal-clear water of the lake; if you’re visiting in winter instead, you will be pleased to enjoy a warm cup of tea in the hotel lounge, the view from there is incredible.

The heart of Grand Hotel Toplice is without doubt its salon, where you can breath the near-centennial history of the hotel. Gran Hotel Toplice hosted kings, presidents, princes, like Prince Charles of England, but also movie stars, Nobel prize winners and artists like Paul McCartney and Agatha Christie.

The room

Our elegant double room had a beautiful view over the lake, with a big balcony where you can enjoy a drink or anything from the wide room-service selection. Our room was very spacious and decorated in a pleasant rustic style; a notable mention to the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. The bathroom was fully equipped with a large shower, hair dryer, shampoos and body lotions.

It’s now time for some relax: the SPA is waiting for you! At Gran Toplice Hotel you can enjoy a natural thermal pool, massages and three different kinds of sauna. The swimming pool is refilled every morning with thermal water at the constant temperature of 22°C, straight from the spring. After a swim, there’s plenty of space to sit back, enjoy the lake view and drink a warm cup of tea or thermal water, well known for its natural effects on stomach and cardiovascular problems.

The SPA at Gran Hotel Toplice is definitely the place to be if you’re looking for a way to recharge your energies and give your body and brain a deserved break. Don’t forget to have a look at the wide range of treatments and massages the SPA has to offer.

The food

Last but not less important: food, definitely one of the many highlights of staying at Gran Hotel Toplice. Every meal is made with fresh and seasonal ingredients, picked daily and cooked by the most dedicated and prepared chefs.

Starting with breakfast, the hotel offers a wide variety of desserts, fruit and fresh drinks, as well as toasts, eggs and salmon (yes, salmon!). There were so much food at breakfast that I hadn’t lunch for three days straight, it’s just impossible to resist.

After a full day of walking, riding or rowing, there’s no better thing than the dinner served at Grand Hotel Toplice. There’s plenty of option to choose and everything is so delicious you can’t go wrong. The attention to details is incredible and also the service has been one of the best I’ve ever experienced. I highly recommend to book half-board if you can as it’s 100% worth it and you easily avoid wasting time looking for a place to have dinner.

This is the end!

I could have used a thousand words to describe Grand Hotel Toplice, but the best way to understand how incredible this place is, it’s to book yourself a holiday in Bled and enjoy this unforgettable experience!

See you next time with a new hotel review!
